I first visited this box on 12 April 1966. I visited 5 boxes that day, see my "boxes visited" log.

Box story:
xx-April 1883 to xx-November 1885 - Sometime during this period the first box here opened.
18 April 1886 - Replacement box.
11 May 1902 - New lever frame.
A 1902 Board of Trade Inspection Diagram is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52529287186/in/album-... and the locking for the new lever frame is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52528821837/in/album-...
20 May 1917 - Replacement box - (this) - But what we don't know, and have to speculate about, is whether a new lever frame with exactly the same numbering was fitted or they transferred the 1902 lever frame into the new box?
A 1930 official sketch of the layout is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52528821627/in/album-...
A 1948 box diagram is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52529766815/in/album-...
A poor quality photo of the 1955 SBD (after Up Outer Home 6 provided and Up Distant moved back to be under Tibshelf & Newton Station Up Starter - probably done 1955). This SBD was likely to be in the box when I visited! (Tibshelf & Newton Station box closed 1 November 1964) www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52529286966/in/album-...
6 November 1966 - Passenger lines to Tibshelf South Junction closed, all trains leaving the branch now had to go through the sidings.
A drawing showing the layout from 1966 after the passenger lines were removed is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52532700637/in/album-...
2 March 1969 - Replacement box. A numbering plan produced for the new box in connection with the Trent re-signalling scheme is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52529766710/in/album-...
The print had been (roughly!) amended following the singling of line to Sutton Colliery Junction.
Sunday 24 August 1969 - Sutton Colliery Junction box was destroyed by fire. Telephone Block Working between this box and a temporary brake van at SCJ.
18 October 1970 - Branch between here and Sutton Colliery Junction singled - Key Token working to Butcherwood GF.
The Weekly operations Notice showing that work starts here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52529290436/in/album-...
A late 1970s SBD after singling to Sutton Colliery Junction (Calling On signal 8 has been removed) is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52529766755/in/album-...
7 January 1981 - Butcherwood GF no longer required (after closure of line to Pleasley) so the token section then was to a machine installed in the Silverhill Colliery Rapid Loading Bunker.
29 January 1984 - The 1969 box was closed, Key Token instrument transferred to Tibshelf Top Sidings Shunters Cabin and the level crossing became "Open" (Actually I think by this time the road was no longer a through road?).
I didn't take a photo of the box when I visited on 12 April 1966. However, I returned in June 1967 and took this photo www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52529287071/in/album-...
I also, on 15 August 1979, took a photo of the 1969 box, seen here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52528821792/in/album-...
Other box photos are here:

2) Late 1968/early 1969, old & new boxes www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52529286926/in/album-...
I only went into one box where a woman was on duty - that was Gonerby Sidings, seen here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51872166861/in/album-....
Though I never saw her there was a woman employed at Tibshelf East. There's great play nowadays about using gender neutral terms - in fact if I went into a signal box today I would ask the permission of the "Signaller".
Olive Holmes was at Tibshelf East for about 40 years and I've read that she always said "I was employed as a Signalman, and Signalman I will be".

The quite accurate location of the box was 442695 (Easting) 358890 (Northing), seen here on the NLS maps maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=16.0&lat=5...
