I visited this box on 15 October 1966. I visited 4 boxes that day, see my "boxes visited" log.

There's a photo of an undated plan for a Stretton Ground Frame here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52468749087/in/album-...

The MR line diagram does show a GF (Stage) at the north end points (later to become 17 points on my diagram)

I guess that the plan could be dated 1919 from the drawing number and, further, they could have become worked from the box sometime after 1925 when the Board of Trade relaxed the rod working distance for points (at which distance they still remain to this day). The MR diagram can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52470145576/in/album-... and a chart showing the distances at which points could be mechanically worked is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52470690388/in/album-...

Dates....

16 August 1877 - Recorded that a signal box was here - named "Stretton North". There was a Stretton South box but it was not there for the other end of the Goods Loops because they weren't there yet.

13 December 1877 - 2nd box here at Stretton North.

22 March 1891 - 3rd box here at Stretton North.

21 February 1904 - 4th box (this) here at Stretton North, Up & Down Goods Loops opened between North & South boxes (New box there too).

16 June 1935 - South box closed, North (this) box renamed just Stretton. Loop points motored at South end, Up signals renamed Intermediate Block Homes, Down block section not track circuited so train out of section couldn't be given until tail lamp passes box or tail lamp telephones used in Down Loop.

11 February 1962 - Up Siding (from SB towards Clay Cross) removed.

24 June 1968 - All Down Sidings out but just leaving number 10 crossover. Up & Down Loops out. All signals at the south end removed - except Down Distant.

12/13 July 1969 (w/e) - Becomes TCB fringe box to Derby Signal Box to the south - Derby Stage 3, see attached extract from the end of Derby resignalling notice here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52468749077/in/album-...

The box closed on 11/12 October 1969 in stage 2A of the Trent resignalling see here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51760217501/in/album-...

The BR LMR Signalling Notice 2810 G has some omissions. Owen Llewellyn has produced a fact sheet which gives an overview of the various stage changes. It can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51760197211/in/album-...
