The box opened with the line in 1892 and was known as Staveley Town North Junction until 1950.
The box closed wef Monday 5 September 1966.
Parts of the line, through, remained as described below:
The GC main totally closed from New Hucknall Sidings to Duckmanton North Jn wef Monday 5 September 1966, Duckmanton North Jn, Staveley South Jn and North Jn boxes closed and the line was singled from Duckmanton North Jn to Renishaw Central as a continuation of the Arkwright Colliery branch. The former Down line was used. The Up line was also retained for a short period to serve Staveley Sidings.
A "GC line closure plan stage 1" S&T plan for this can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52229772912/in/album-...
That situation lasted 2 years (until some unknown date in 1968) when "GC line closure stage 2" was carried out. Staveley Sidings had finally closed and traffic reduced at Renishaw Ironworks so, as part of this Stage 2, Beighton Station Junction to Renishaw Central was singled (to give access to Arkwright Colliery). Renishaw Central box was closed. The signalling plan for that is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51687276125/in/album-...
The Arkwright branch from Renishaw was closed 23 August 1982 when a connecting chord from the GC main at Staveley North Jn was constructed to connect into the Midland line near Hall Lane Jn, thereby allowing closure of the GC main from Staveley to Beighton Station Jn.
A 1984 photo, by Robin Stewart-Smith, showing the new connection can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/154596801@N04/52287590723/in/photol...
That new line closed 24 July 1988.
