Stanton Junction Signal Box Track Diagram
I visited this box on 27 June 1967. I visited 2 boxes that day, see my "boxes visited" log.

There is a B&W photo of the box diagram, taken I believe in 1967. This looks to be the diagram which was in the box when I visited:

There are colour photos of parts of that diagram seen here:
1) www.flickr.com/photos/131399492@N05/31822586851/in/photol...
2) www.flickr.com/photos/131399492@N05/31938990505/in/photol...
3) www.flickr.com/photos/131399492@N05/31822586681/in/photol...
Unfortunately none of the photos show the complete diagram. I had a go at stitching two together and so did Owen. His version is better than mine so I include it here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52478472310/in/album-...
I did send a flickr message to "Joint Line" asking if it would be OK for me to use the stitched copy. To date I've not had a reply so, in the absence of any refusal, I am including it with appropriate credits. Obviously if, in the future, I receive representations about that I shall delete the photo.
Dates and other stuff:
9 July 1883 - Stanton Branch opened, assume this box opened the same date?
4 June 1886 - Heanor Branch to Nutbrook added. A drawing of the 1960 layout is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52463974762/in/album-...
2 December 1963 - Route to Nutbrook closed. A photo of the 1964 box diagram is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52464475341/in/album-...
6 May 1968 - Egginton Jn to Stanton Jn closed to through traffic, though Egginton Jn to Derby Friargate was retained for research department use. That soon got cut back to Mickleover when the route was breached by a new road scheme on the west side of Derby. The Weekly Operating Notice can be seen starting here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52465023848/in/album-...
27 May 1968 - Box and line closed. This is the WEF date of Monday, last train ran Saturday 25 May 1968.
Just prior to this date BR had constructed a connecting line between the former MR system and former GNR system within Stanton Works to enable the GNR sidings to still be served - but now from Stanton Gate on the MR Erewash Valley line.
This connecting line became very useful during the following months as demolition trains for the closed former GC/GN routes from the regional boundary south of Langwith Junction through to Nottingham Victoria and through Stanton Jn all ran this way, using Toton Sidings as their base.
