I visited this box on 3 January 1967. I visited 4 boxes that day, see my "boxes visited" log.

Dates as known:

1869 - A signal box structure was already here in this year.

1876 - Block telegraph working introduced.

10 November 1895 - New lever frame.

21 April 1901 - Up & Down Goods lines in a southerly loop around back of sidings opened.

26 July 1914 - New replacement signal box (this one). A 1936/37 drawing is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52460220560/in/album-...

18 August 1968 - Siding 1 upgraded to be new Down Goods. A drawing for that is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52460041669/in/album-...

3 November 1968 - Old Down Goods abolished.

23 November 1969 - Gates replaced by barriers.

The box closed on 6 December 1969 in stage 3 of the Trent resignalling see here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51760217501/in/album-...

The BR LMR Signalling Notice 2810 G has some omissions. Owen Llewellyn has produced a fact sheet which gives an overview of the various stage changes. It can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51760197211/in/album-...

7 December 1969 - Route resignalled and put under control of Trent PSB. Level crossing was to be Automatic Half Barrier (AHB) but Hixon accident caused a rethink, so the box was retained as a Shunting Frame (Gate Box) slotting the protecting signals. A drawing for that is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52460041654/in/album-...

17 June 1973 - Trent Lane Crossing changed from a released Gate Box to manually controlled barriers monitored with closed-circuit television (MCB - CCTV) from Sneinton.

14 December 1975 - Area of control extended to include Colwick Crossing - MCB - CCTV. A drawing for that is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52459775921/in/album-...

At an unknown date before closure the road over the adjacent crossing (Meadow Lane) was closed to vehicles but barriers were retained for just a pedestrian crossing.

17 April 1986 - Crossover (2/3) removed.

9 August 1987 - Trent Lane CCTV closed and became foot crossing with MWL. A photo of the 2004 box diagram is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52459775881/in/album-...

20 July 2013 - (Just - at 00:10) Box closed, line worked by pilotman without signalling to permit Skegness trains to run whilst Nottingham Station track layout was redesigned.

3 August 2013 - Box removed to the Tuxford Rail Innovation and Development Centre (RIDC) . A photo showing the removal is here www.flickr.com/photos/43709405@N07/9437823719/in/photolis...

A photo of the box at Tuxford is here www.flickr.com/photos/100401677@N05/9541053408/in/photoli...

25 August 2013 - Line reopened with new signalling from EMCC Netherfield WorkStation - Level crossing replaced by a foot & cycle bridge.

At Tuxford, however, management changes at RIDC appear to have changed whatever plans there were for the box and on 27 January 2022 the disused box was rescued from RIDC Tuxford and moved to Wirksworth on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway for restoration and final location at Gorsey Bank Crossing.

I didn't take a photo of the box when I visited in 1967 however I took a photo of the general area in 1978, seen here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52451990257/in/album-...
