Dates:
1874 - Block telegraph working introduced.
Before 1 November 1875 - there was a box which opened named "Sleights Sidings North". However this wasn't at the location of the road crossing. It was several hundred yards to the south. The level crossing (which existed) must have been manned by a crossing keeper. See 1879 OS map for the locations of Sleights boxes www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52419983904/in/album-...
In 1876 the North box was renamed "Sleights Sidings East".
3 April 1892 - New replacement box (this). This new East box was located approx 391 yards to the north of the old box at the level crossing location. The empty sidings line & crossover/slip were extended northwards but still about 150 yards south of the box. The siding connection into the Down line was also extended northwards a short way but was too far from the box at that time to be worked by point rodding so a ground frame was provided ("Stage" in MR speak).
A drawing of the 1892+ layout is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52419191342/in/album-...
For a short period in those early years the next box towards Kirkby was "Langton Junction", where the GN joined the MR for a few years before the junction was removed and then the GN built their colliery branch crossing the MR by an overbridge.
11/12 October 1969 - Becomes fringe box to Trent PSB. A diagram of this layout is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52420215053/in/album-...
From then its area of control on the Down line was extended back towards Pye bridge and the Kirkby Branch GF is the same GF that was previously released by Pye Bridge Junction box.
In 1976, believed to be Sunday 21 March, the down home signal, SE15, became an automatic signal SE101 and the down starting signal SE14 became the down home signal. The weekly operating notice which shows this change can be seen, starting here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52434964528/in/album-...
A photo of a box diagram showing that the level crossing gates were still there and SE101 was operational is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52434335680/in/album-...

On Sunday 29 June 1980 the Level Crossing gates were replaced by manually operated lifting barriers (MCB). Two block-shelf mounted switches (IFS, Individual Function Switches) were provided to control the protecting signals, rendering the lever frame redundant. The weekly Operating Notice which describes that starts here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52433882271/in/album-...

9 June 2007 - Box closed, also line temporarily closed for resignalling. Box went to the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway.
5 August 2007 - Line re-opened, crossing MCB-CCTV from Trent's new Erewash Workstation.
29 August 2008 - Erewash Workstation transferred to EMCC.
I didn't take a photo of the box when I visited in 1965.
However, two of my later external photos of the box are here:
