Shirebrook West Station Signal Box Track Diagram
I visited this box on 2 July 1966. I visited 8 boxes that day, see my "boxes visited" log.

No. 8 lever operated the points to the Down Refuge Siding and the disc was a point indicator as originally there just wasn't enough levers, all 16 being in use at one time. Levers A & B were added at an unknown date (possibly after 1937?) to make pulls for Up Distant signals easier.
Dates:
1 November 1875 - The first box here was already open by this date
28 January 1890 - This replacement box opened. The 1936-37 layout can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52406386059/in/album-...
Sometime in 1962 - Warsop Main Colliery became single sided, serviced only from the ex LD&EC Warsop Junction. Top 2 sidings in Up Yard become dead end sidings.
After August 1971 - Shirebrook Sidings signalling minimised so lever 13 became available and was reutilised to control the disc from Down Refuge Siding instead of it being point disc 8.
11 November 1974 - Lever 10 becomes new set back disc - Down to Up through crossover 5 and 16 re-used to be slot on exit signal from newly created W H Davis branch to run the wrong direction from Shirebrook Junction along Down Main to this new signal.
23 May 1976 - Single servicing of Warsop Main Colliery changed to be from Midland side (not ex LD&ECR Warsop Jn), top most Up Siding became single line Warsop Main Branch. Levers A & B become motorised points and exit signal from branch, signal 15 moved back to be depot exit signal. Two new signal switches "17" & "18" were added to control signals on the new branch. (Up distants now easier to work - one became a colour light, so lever 1 can work all Up Distant signals).
xx-xx-1979 - Replacement 18 lever second hand tappet frame fitted (old frame was tumbler). Strangely, but understandably, it had to be numbered the same, A, B, 1 to 16, retaining exactly the same functions as the old frame, couldn't be renumbered because signal switches 17 & 18 existed and it's thought it made the job a whole lot easier!
xx-xx-1982 - Additional signal switch "19" added to slot Shirebrook Sidings set back signal to permit wrong road move along Up Main towards signal 14. The 1982ish diagram can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52405912217/in/album-...
25 August 1989 - Warsop Main pit closed along with the branch.
17 January 1998 - Box closed, new signalling and motor points controlled from Shirebrook Junction box (number 6 slip points were abolished).
I didn't take a photo of the box when I visited in 1966 but my colour shot taken in 1979 is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52406092816/in/album-...

Some of my photos of the area, taken between 1979 and 1987 are here:
1) At weekends you would often see the line of Class 56 locos stabled at the Diesel depot. In 1979 we see 8 locos here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52406094576/in/album-...
