Shirebrook Sidings_1929-assumed

This box diagram from an online auction catalogue is believed to be the layout as the box opened in 1929, before many additional connections were installed.

Peter Churchman comments "That auctioned copy of Shirebrook Sdgs is most interesting and raises a number of queries! Have been trying to figure this one out, as it doesn’t quite fit with other ‘proven’ diagrams:

The issue-stamp certainly looks similar to others I have seen on MR/early LMS drawings, but assuming it’s genuinely old, it seems odd that it doesn’t have ‘LMSR’ etc above the title? – I don’t recall ever seeing spare levers ‘grouped’ as listed here, though that may have been due to the large number?

There are a number of elements later added which are not shown at the Left Hand end – 5+9 points, 16+47 signals etc – and no room for these to be added . Also the Colliery platform.

Additionally 75 points are shown as almost opposite the box, with no facing connection 45/46.

All Track Circuits are also missing! – My T.C. list shows T.C.s 1163, & 1165 as commissioned 1929, but 1164 not until 1930.

So, on balance, taking into account the later 1930 changes described below the diagram must indeed be the ‘as commissioned’ layout from 1929."
