The only historical layout differences I am aware of between that diagram and the one I drew in July 1966 are:
1) On my diagram the Up Distant no. 1 had been changed to a colour light.
2) On the 1950s diagram the home signal no. 2 had a repeater arm for sighting under the platform canopy. The canopy was later removed.
A photo showing the canopy in place can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/johnmightycat/5672674807/in/photoli...
Box story:
The box opened with the line in 1892.
I remember, on my visit to the box, being given some reclassification letters, dated 1937, when the box moved up from a class 4 to a class 3. I have located those papers and show them in a separate Album here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52706296350/in/album-...
The GC main totally closed from New Hucknall Sidings to Duckmanton North Jn wef Monday 5 September 1966, Duckmanton North Jn, Staveley South Jn and North Jn boxes closed and the line was singled from Duckmanton North Jn to Renishaw Central as a continuation of the Arkwright Colliery branch. The former Down line was used and a facing hand point (normally locked) installed in the Up Line to connect to the slued Down line for this. The Up line was also retained for a short period to serve Staveley Sidings.
Renishaw Central box was retained because there was still traffic for the Ironworks sidings.
A "GC line closure plan stage 1" S&T plan for this can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52229772912/in/album-... and the associated box diagram for Renishaw Central is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52231257140/in/album-...
This situation lasted 2 years (until some unknown date in 1968) when "GC line closure stage 2" was carried out. Staveley Sidings had finally closed and traffic reduced at Renishaw Ironworks so, as part of this Stage 2, Beighton Station Junction to Renishaw Central was singled (to give access to Arkwright Colliery). Renishaw Central box was closed. The signalling plan for that is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51687276125/in/album-...
The S&T plan says that a Ground Frame (GF) was provided to work the Ironworks Sidings points 21 - but Owen and Peter have information that a GF was not provided and that, instead, the signal box was downgraded to GF status with 21 still connected but with an FPL into it on lever 22 which was released by a key on the Beighton Station Jn to Arkwright Colliery One Train Working single line staff.
Within 2 or 3 years (unknown date) the Ironworks connection was removed and the box finally abolished.
The Arkwright branch passing the box was closed 23 August 1982 when a connecting chord from the GC main at Staveley North Jn was constructed to connect into the Midland line near Hall Lane Jn, thereby allowing closure of the GC main from Staveley to Beighton Station Jn.

I took a photo, on 1 September 2015, of the sign which was fixed to the south (Nottingham) side of the road bridge seen on the box diagram www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52230777373/in/album-...

The quite accurate location of the box was 444392 (Easting) 378048 (Northing), seen here on the NLS maps maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=16&lat=53....
