Some dates:
Before 1 November 1875 - There was a box at the crossing, but not a block post.
24 January 1897 - This new replacement block post signal box opened. The Track Diagram as opened is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52198914147/in/album-...
Between 1897 and my visit in 1965 not much happened but after that quite a lot occurred!
May 1967 - The M1 Motorway was built, banner repeater R2 provided.
11/12 October 1969 - Trent PSB opened, signal 4 was removed and new Sleights East colour light distant installed below 3.
8 November 1970 - Langton Colliery Ground Frame removed from branch which then only served Bentinck Full Sidings.
A 1972 Track Diagram is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52200581217/in/album-...
Before 1979 - The Economical Facing Point Lock (EFPL) on 10A becomes Facing Point (FPL) 11A with 11B also locking points 12B, Track Circuit 1 provided. Points 9 and siding 2 out, signal 14 becomes 15 and new signal 14 provided to protect shunting movements replacing notice board. Points 7, signal 8 out.
16 December 1979 - Gates out, manually controlled barriers installed.
26 September 1980 - Sleights East starter abolished, Sleights East home (Colour light) becomes distant.
3 February 1988 - Upper Portland box closed - Automatic Half Barrier added to diagram. A photo of the Track Diagram in the box on 6 May 1988 can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/ingythewingy/8557729915/in/photolis...
24 September 1995 - New Kirkby Summit box opened, distant 1 becomes colour light, banner R2 out, T2 added.
25 December 1996 - Box damaged by fire and temporarily closed, portacabin provided to handsignal trains. Box refurbished and reopened - don't know date.
By 2007 - All points out, both lines plain line. A Track Diagram 2007ish and at closure is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52200412295/in/album-...
9 June 2007 - Box closed, line temporarily closed for building new track layout at Pye Bridge Junction and equip crossing with CCTV equipment. Box saved and transported to Barrow Hill.
5 August 2007 - Line reopened - resignalled, crossing CCTV operated from Trent PSB - new Erewash workstation.
29 August 2008 - Signalling control transferred to new Erewash workstation in EMCC.
Apparently the "Official" closure date of the box was 6 August 2007 - the box, though, wasn't there anymore.
