Robin Hood Line Storyboard_40
2002 saw two steam hauled charters on the Robin Hood Line. This one, on 2 November 2002, was the Past Time Rail "The Jolly Collier". It was hauled by B1 no. 61264 and is seen climbing towards Kirkby-in-Ashfield station on the line from Pye Bridge.
Unusually, on the climb, the driver of 61264 shuts the regulator after giving a long urgent blast on the whistle and, immediately, the safety valves lift indicating that the engine is well prepared for the climb up to Kirkby station. I would guess that the driver wasn't happy about some spectators near the site of the former Bentinck Colliery Sidings Signal Box.
As the train approaches Kirkby Station it is passed by a Class 156 Super Sprinter which takes the Robin Hood line towards Newstead.
