Robin Hood Line Storyboard_18

This is part 1 of a series of 6 photos showing where the line begins to drop down to meet the ex MR Pye Bridge to Kirkby line.

The top photo was taken during Easter 1968, just before the line (the GNR Leen Valley Extension) closed. We see the cutting which led towards Kirkby South Junction to join the ex GCR mainline before diving underneath Lindley's Lane bridge on its way to Annesley North Junction and beyond. The cutting was filled in after the line closed.

In the middle photo, taken on 9 May 1993, we see the ex MR 1972 deviation to the right which was built to eliminate the 2 level crossings in Kirkby. Part of the bridge abutments where the GNR line crossed the MR line are still visible. It may help to look at the National Library of Scotland side by side map here maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=15.51710364138...

The bottom photo, taken on 16 July 1994 shows the work being carried out to remove some of the filled-in cutting.
