Some history:

10 February 1893 - Agreement made between the Midland Railway and the Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway for the MS&L Rly to use part of the MR Blackwell Branch for their New Hucknall Branch - see Midland Railway Study Centre item description here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52092803708/in/album-...

18 April 1893 - First box here opened. It was 20 levers and gates were worked by a wheel.

??-??-???? - This box new - but this design of signal box (LMR type 15) only dates from 1954. A picture of an SBD stamped 17 December 1963 also has the original (assumed) scheme number on it: DB/928/57 which would infer a 1957 scheme so possibly new box 1958? Gates were worked by hand from the new box. The 1963 SBD is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52093270540/in/album-...

4 December 1966 - Key Token working introduced from Blackwell East Jn, previously Train Staff from B Winning.

3 October 1971 - Changed to One Engine In Steam staff and the signal box reclassified as a ground frame.

5 November 1980 - Demolished in an accident, ground frame provided. I understand that the ‘unplanned demise’ of the box happened due to kids releasing the brakes on wagons left in the colliery sidings.

28 February 1981 - Pit closed but trains continued to access New Hucknall tip up on the ex GCR line via reversal.

15 August 1982 - All closed, line severed at Blackwell East Junction.

There is an undated MR signalling sketch. However, the style of drawing number places it as being pre 1920 www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52093270575/in/album-...
