New Hucknall Sidings Signal Box Track Diagram
I first visited this box on 21 February 1966. I visited 3 boxes that day, see my "boxes visited" log, see my "boxes visited" log

I remember, on one of my visits, being given a lift back to Kirkby Bentinck Station in a brake van hauled by the Sidings pilot, a diesel shunter (later known as Class 08). It was a welcome ride but to get home I did have the challenge of cycling up (or walking up with my bike!) Church Hill at Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
Some History:
Original MS&L box opened 17 April 1893 for new sidings to serve New Hucknall Colliery and that box was named "New Hucknall Colliery". There's a photo of J11 no. 64292 passing the original MS&L Rly box, heading towards Annesley here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52166640372/in/album-...
When was this box new? As with nearby New Hucknall Colliery, it's a LMR type 15 box, so after 1954. One could speculate that it was renewed as part of the same scheme so maybe 1958?
The GC main line closed between here and Duckmanton North Junction WEF 5 September 1966, buffer stops installed on both Up and Down lines just north of Down Starter 14.
Little or no traffic from Kirkby Bentinck after 26 November 1967, not sure why but probably all New Hucknall coal went out via Midland from then?
The Box and main line from Kirkby Bentinck closed 6 May 1968.
The Main lines were lifted except for a couple hundred yards of the Up Main south of crossover points 3A to use as a headshunt for tip bound trains from New Hucknall Colliery signal box direction, all points converted to hand points (20, 30, 40, 42 removed).
Sidings gradually cut back until just a few on Down side and totally closed 15 August 1982.
