The 1st box on this site opened in 1890.
This 2nd box opened 28 October 1928 at the same time as the associated Hall Lane to Seymour doubling was done, The inspection was 27 May 1929. A plan (which also shows the location of the old box) is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52078113765/in/album-...
and the locking diagram is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52077621001/in/album-...
The lever frame was a REC 4.5" tappet.
When the box opened lever no. 5 was in use as Down Goods distant (later No. 1 Goods). I have no idea when it became fixed, but it was before 1962.
Between 1962 and my visit in 1966 signals 2/8/9 and 7/10/11 were changed from 3 pronged brackets to single posts with stacked arms.
Ground Frame (4) was also released by Main line (later No. 2 Goods) Tablet.
Sometime between 1929 and 1962 the Up & Down Main were renamed Up & Down No. 2 Goods and also Up & Down Goods renamed Up & Down No. 1 Goods.
Before 1973 the GF (4) was taken out, signals 16/17/29 were taken out, some levers reutilised - 16 as FPL to 13 & 14, 17 as FPL to 15.
On Sunday 19 July 1970 a new rapid loading bunker facility was brought into use at Markham Colliery, with new sidings and colour light signalling. The signalling notice for this can be seen starting here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52079591809/in/album-...
23 April 1978 - Tablet working replaced by OTW staff to Bolsover when the box there closed.
Before (or during) 1982 No. 1 Goods was taken out of use and all remaining semaphore signals converted to colour lights.
15 August 1982 the box closed, remaining points and signals became worked by Seymour Junction box.
The Midland Railway Study Centre Derby catalogue shows they have, in their collection, a Markham Collery M.R. - Markham Collieries LD&EC original Midland Railway Pattern A steel and brass tablet. The Item number is 32306 ,searchable here www.midlandrailwaystudycentre.org.uk/catalogue.php
The description is: Markham Collery M.R. - Markham Collieries LD&EC. An original Midland Railway Pattern A steel and brass tablet with an additional hole drilled later by the LMS in connection with the installation of an intermediate tablet instrument in the Weigh Office at Markham No 2 Colliery Loaded Sidings. (The tablet is unusual in having two companies' initials engraved to more readily identify two similarly named signal boxes.
