Leicester Passenger North Signal Box Track Diagram

I visited this box on 2 January 1967. I visited 4 boxes that day, see my "boxes visited" log.

My purpose that day was to visit Rugby box. I had arranged that visit officially (see Rugby Signal box text when it is added). The signalman at Rugby had phoned Leicester Goods North (the next box he was working to) and asked if I could visit that box. I then went into Leicester Passenger South and then this box.

The box closed 4 weeks after my visit, on 29 January 1967.

There's a circa 1947 plan, coloured by David Blower, here www.flickr.com/photos/90214143@N04/50822162866

There's a photo of the diagram dated about 1952, here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51999039953/in/album-...

I didn't take any photos of the box.

UPDATE 16 May 2022.

I raised, on three Facebook Groups, a query relating to signal no. 2 at Leicester Passenger South box. Pete Garrard responded and has allowed me to include his photos took around Easter 1967 of the colour light signals both at Passenger South box and also this Passenger North box.

There are 2 photos showing some unusual locos on the GC:

30925 "Cheltenham" www.flickr.com/photos/28083135@N06/51876260139

On the Annesley fireman site www.annesleyfireman.com/id14.html it shows that 30925 was actually allocated to Annesley for 1 week in May 1962.

and 46251 "City of Nottingham" www.flickr.com/photos/28083135@N06/51748202271

I've been told that 46251 gained access to the GC on this light engine run by using the line from Claydon L & N E Junction to Calvert.

There was a railway accident here on 19 February 1957. The report can be seen here

www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/docsummary.php?docID=156

Although the primary error was attributed to the driver we see that "Signaller error" was a secondary cause. Time Interval working was in place because of Block and Telephone Failure.

The quite accurate location of the box was 458152 (Easting) 305012 (Northing), seen here on the NLS maps maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=16&lat=52....

A more detailed 25 inch to the mile map is here maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=16&lat=52....
