My external photo of the box is here www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51609515323/in/album-...

It was not a block post and is not mentioned in the Sectional Appendix pages. It was between Leeming Bar Station and Bedale Station. The Sectional Appendix pages are here. www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51606908339/in/album-...

The quite accurate location of the box was 428034 (Easting) 489312 (Northing), seen here on the NLS maps maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=16&lat=54....

In the 1960s we always spent a week with my Dad's relatives, near Gateshead. The early journeys were by Hall Bros coach and a stop was always made at Leeming Bar. I used to see this crossing cabin from there. When we went in 1966 the journey was by car so, when we did stop at Leeming Bar on the way home I took the opportunity to walk across and have a look inside.

The line now forms part of the heritage Wensleydale Railway.
