D6735 between Mansfield and Sutton-in-Ashfield, 1962/63

This is a great photo taken by Syd Hancock and is used with his kind permission. The copyright remains with Syd.

Where the photo was taken is now part of the Timberland Trail, between the bridge over the Robin Hood line at Kings Mill Reservoir and Hermitage Lane.

Today the engine location is occupied by PB Auto Electrics on Hermitage Way (part of the track routing is now Hermitage Way).

The Hermitage Lane concrete plant seen on the left is still there today.

The bridge where the line crossed Hermitage Lane (seen above the rear cab of the engine) was near to where Screwfix is today.

My brother and I first saw D6735 hauling 3VO5 on Monday 11th March 1963 at Kirkby Central. In the following weeks up to 1st April I saw the loco on 3V05 another six times.

Following this photo is a map which shows the location.
