There were thirty K3 2-6-0 locos recorded during the period. They were allocated to 6 sheds as shown below:

I have identified some entries with a common theme, as below:

 

1) Four instances where London Road is mentioned in the Remarks (two are for 5E11). I believe this would be Nottingham London Road (See article on that station at www.disused-stations.org.uk/n/nottingham_london_road_low_...)

 

2) Seven instances of light engines going to Annesley South with "4 25" in the Remarks. The timing of these movements (at about ten past four) suggests that it would be for a 4.25pm departure from the Up Sidings. On Facebook, Chris Ward has tabulated a 16.25 departure to Woodford in 1964 so I believe it was that train. Was this 8M57? See 61854 on Wednesday 22nd August 1962.

 

3) Two instances of light engines going to Annesley South with the remarks showing what I read as "Hotchley Hill". On Facebook, Chris Ward has tabulated a 13:07 working to Hotchley Hill in 1964.

 

4) Five instances of engine changes on 5N38 going north at about 8.35pm. There are also three instances of light engines going to No.3 box at about 8.15pm with "Ardsley" in the Remarks. I think these are for the same train. Chris Ward on Facebook tabulates a 20.30 (5N38) departure to Ardsley in 1964.

 

5) Two instances of N19, one as 4N19. Chris Ward, on Facebook tabulates a 19.55 to York (4N19) in 1964.

UPDATE 6th March 2021:

Chris Ward has given me some additional information which I show below.

 

5E11 was the 06.55 Sheffield (Bernard Rd) to Colwick. (Could have carried any type of merchandise.) The Hotchley Hill job was Driver Ralph Cumberland's daily turn, usually L.E. to Queens Walk, Drop off/pick up at Ruddington Ordnance Depot, then to Hotchley Hill, returning at 16.30. Most passed cleaners had their first taste of driving on this job. 4N24 was a northbound fitted in the morning, the 07.35 Woodford - York. The only E47 I can find is 7E47, the 16.41 Uttoxeter to Colwick! The 4.25 pm was the 16.25 Annesley - Woodford "runner". The return working was the 20.47 Woodford - Tees.

I can't find 3V12 in the WTT. 3V11 changed engines as required at that time though.

 

Additional note from Malcolm - Could these actually be 3V11 (the Grimsby - Whitland fish) and that 3V12 was used to advise Annesley North that the train needed to be routed into Annesley yard, rather that going main line? The timings are about right albeit these 2 are about 20-30 minutes earlier that 3V11 times.

61944 - Saturday 11th August 1962, Page 3 Up. Arrived from No.2 box at 8.20am, then went on Up Goods to South Jcn. Remarks show "5E11"? "16 London Road"?. I presume this would be for Nottingham London Road.

 

61854 - Monday 13th August 1962, Page 7 Down. Off shed at 12.42pm, takes coal, then "South" with "Burton" in Remarks. On Page 7 Up there is a 2-3 (light engine) bell code, entering section to Annesley South Jcn at 12.50pm with "Burton" in Remarks.

 

61960 - Tuesday 14th August 1962, Page 12 Up. Arrived as bell code 1-3-1 on Up Loop from Annesley North Jcn at 6.45pm, then went via Up Engine Line to Annesley South Jcn. Remarks show "3V12". An Immingham engine was this a fish train?

 

61812 - Wednesday 15th August 1962, Page 14 Down. Left via Down Goods to Annesley North Jcn at 6.36am with "Doncaster" shown in Remarks, presumably went light engine.

 

61812 - Thursday 16th August 1962, Pages 18 Up. Arrived from No. 2 box on the Up at 6.36am then went on shed. Page 18 Down, returned from shed at 7.43am, then went light engine (2-3) via Down Goods Line. Remarks show "Don. Mans" I take this to be that the engine was going to Doncaster via the Mansfield line taken at Kirkby South Jcn.

 

61960 - Thursday 16th August 1962, Page 18 Up. Arrived from No. 3 box at 7.22am then onto shed. Page 18 Down, at 7.49am it returned from shed then went via no. 1 Down arrival to No. 3 box with "E01" in Remarks. There is an entry on Page 18 Down for a 3-1-1 arriving at 7.13am and going via no. 2 Down arrival to No.3 box. In the Remarks is "E01 Grimsby 17" My understanding is that 5E01 was the returning fish empties to New Cleethorpes with an engine change at Annesley? What would the short visit to the shed be for? Crew change rather than engine change possibly?

 

61969 - Thursday 16th August 1962, Page 20 Down. Left shed at 7.39pm, onto Down Engine line to No.3 box. Remarks show "N19". On Facebook, Chris Ward has tabulated a 19.55 to York (4N19) in 1964.

 

61846 - Friday 17th August 1962, Page 23 Up. Arrived from No. 2 box on the Up at 12.24pm then went on shed.

Page 24 Down. Returned from shed at 3.51pm, took coal, then with "South" recorded and "5.15 London" in the Remarks. We then see on Page 24 Up that Train Entering Section is given to South Jcn for a light engine (2-3) at 3.51pm. In the Remarks "5.15 London". On Facebook, Chris Ward has tabulated a 17.15 departure to London (1B97)

 

61846 - Saturday 18th August 1962, Page 26 Down. Arrived at 9.38am as 2-3 light engine from South Jcn on the Down Goods. Presumably this was 61846 returning after it's working to London the previous day.

Saturday 18th August 1962, Page 27 Down. Came off shed at 3.59pm, took Coal. Remarks show "5.15 London" then on Page 27 Up it departs as 2-3 light engine at 3.59pm on Up Goods to South Jcn. Remarks show "5.15 London"

 

61867 - Saturday 18th August 1962, Page 28 Up. Arrived from No. 2 box at 8.59pm then onto shed.

Sunday 19th August 1962, Page 28 Down. Left the shed at 5.42am, took coal. "0X3?6" in Remarks. Then on Page 28 Up departed 5.42am via Up Goods to South Jcn. Remarks "0X3?6" I assume it was rostered to take a special, possibly 1X36? from Nottingham Vic. Anyone know anything about that train?

 

61826 - Monday 20th August 1962, Page 30 Up. Shown as 2-3 light engine at 10.7am for South Jcn, having arrived from No.2 box. Because there was no "offering" to South Jcn the loco would have travelled via the Up Engine Line. Remarks show "Colwick".

 

61867 - Monday 20th August 1962. I think the sequence on that day was:

Page 32 Down. At 7.28pm 4N19 arrived (3-1-1 bell code) into no. 2 Down arrival to No.3 box. A comment of "Loco ?" is recorded.

Page 32 Up. At 7.48pm 61867 returned from No.3 box to shed. Remarks show "x 4N19"

Page 32 Down. At 7.51pm 61867, with "x Coal?" recorded, returned to No.3 box via no.1 Down arrival. In the Remarks "4N19 Eng"

 

61917 - Tuesday 21st August 1962, Page 36 Down. Left the shed at 8.17pm goes Down Engine Line to No.3 box. Remarks are "Change N3?8". Train 5N38 (5 bell code) passed on the Down Goods at 7.30pm. Train out of Section received from Annesley North Jcn at 8.35pm. Remarks are "5N38. 13"

 

61854 - Wednesday 22nd August 1962, Page 40 Down. Leaves Loco at 4.9pm. Remarks show "4.25". "Loop" is a comment.

Page 40 Up. Leaves Up Loop onto Up Goods as 1-4 bell code to South Jcn at 4.16pm. Remarks show "4.25". On Page 39 Up there is a record for a 1-4 bell code arriving in the Up Loop, entering section received from Annesley North Jcn at 2.29pm, comments 4.25pm for Woodford, Remarks "8M5?7". Train out of Section for this train given to Annesley North at 4.25pm

 

61944 - Thursday 23rd August, Page 43 Up. Comment "x 2" onto Up Goods to Annesley South Jcn as a 5 bell code train, passing at 8.25am. Remarks are "15 London Rd"

 

61944 - Saturday 25th August 1962, Page 51 Up. Leaves No.2 box (x 2) and goes to South Jcn at 7.44am on the Up Goods as 3-1-1 bell code. Remarks are "14 London Rd"

 

61917 - Saturday 25th August 1962, Page 52 Down. Leaves shed at 11.38am, comment "South". Remarks are "H.Hill (Hotchley Hill?).

Page 52 Up. Leaves on Up Good Line as 2-3 light engine to South Jcn at 11.38am. Remarks are "H.Hill".

Page 53 Down. Leaves shed at 8.23pm (must have returned) onto no.1 arrival to No.3 box. Remarks are "N38". That train 5N38 (5 bell code) had arrived into no.2 arrival to No.3 box at 7.56pm. Remarks are "5N38. 25 Stav(eley)"

 

61875 - Sunday 26th August 1962, Page 53 Up. Arrives from No.2 box at 3.32am then to shed. (Then see the following entry on Monday 27th August).

 

61875 - Monday 27th August 1962, Page 55 Down. From shed at 9.54am then onto Stacks. Remarks "Change N24". On Page 55 Down 4N24 (3-1-1 bell code) arrives at 10.24am from South Jcn, goes into no.2 arrival to No.3 box. Comment "(Examination) Change Engs". Remarks "4N24 17 Rotherham?"

On Page 55 Down later we see an entry for BR 9F 2-10-0 no. 92092 (allocated to Annesley) going on shed at 10.32am. Remarks show "x 4N24".

 

61984 - Monday 27th August 1962, Page 56 Up. Arrives from No.3 box on Engine Line to shed at 4.10pm

Page 57 Down. Returns from shed and goes on no.1 arrival to No.3 box at 8.10pm. Remarks show "5N38". That train had arrived on the Down Goods as a 5 bell code at 7.50pm. Train out of Section received from Annesley North Jcn at 8.38pm.

 

61811 - Wednesday 29th August 1962, Page 62 Up. Arrives from No.2 box at 2.10am then on shed.

Page 62 Down. Leaves shed at 3.0am then goes 2-3 light engine on the Down Goods. Train out of Section received from North Jcn at 3.8am. Remarks "Langwith"

 

61827 - Wednesday 29th August 1962, Page 63 Up. Arrives from No.2 box at 9.25am as a 5 bell. Departs on the Up Goods to South Jcn at 9.25am. Remarks show "5E11 12 London Rd?"

 

61871 - Wednesday 29th August 1962, Page 64 Up. Arrives on Up Goods at 1.42pm then to shed.

Page 64 Down. Leaves shed at 4.10pm "South" in comments. Remarks show "4 25"

On Page 64 Up we see a 2-3 light engine going via Up Goods at 4.10pm to South Jcn. Remarks show "4 25".

 

61871 - Thursday 30th August 1962, Page 67 Down. Arrives into no.1 arrival to No.3 box with 3-1-1 at 6.34am. Remarks show "4N26 Change Eng" with a comment "Eng failure". Then at 6.37am shown as "x Goods" to shed. Remarks show "x 4N26". On the next line down we see K1 Class 2-6-0 no. 62055 come from shed at 6.40am onto Down Goods. Remarks show "Change N26" At that time 62055 was allocated to Doncaster (36A). Can anyone confirm details for 4N26?

Page 69 Down. 61871 off shed at 4.5pm, takes coal. Comment "South". Remarks show "4 25". On Page 69 Up we see a 2-3 light engine going via Up Goods to South Jcn at 4.11pm. Remarks "4 25".

 

61977 - Friday 31st August 1962, Page 72 Up. Arrives from No.2 box at 10.6am then on shed.

Page 72 Down. Arrives from shed at 11.18am. Comment "Loop". Remarks "Change E47".

Page 72 Up. Departs to South Jcn on Up Goods as a 4-1 bell code at 11.28am. Comment "x Loop". Remarks "E47".

 

61847 - Friday 31st August 1962, Page 73 Up. Arrives from No.2 box at 2.42pm goes on shed.

Then on Page 98 Up we see 61934 returning at 5.52pm from No.3 box then to shed.

Page 99 Down. Returns from shed at 8.10pm then via Down Engine Line to No.3 box. Remarks "Ardsley"

On Page 98 Down 5N38 (5 bell code) went into no.1 arrival to No.3 box at 7.14pm, hauled by BR 9F 2-10-0 no. 92076 (allocated to Annesley)

 

61871 - Friday 7th September 1962, Page 98 Down. Leaves shed at 4.5pm. Comment "South". Remarks "4 25". We then see on Page 98 Up at 4.8pm a 2-3 light engine going via Up Goods to South Jcn. Remarks "4 25".
