Log of loco recorded_7XXXX_v1

Representatives of 4 BR Standard class locos were recorded at Annesley No. 4 box during the period. The four 'Britannia' Class 7P6F 4-6-2 allocated to Annesley at the time made quite a few appearances. They were 70014 "Iron Duke", 70015 "Apollo", 70048 "The Territorial Army 1908-1958" and 70049 "Solway Firth". Quite why the other two 'Britannias', 70003 "John Bunyan" and 70025 "Solway Firth" turned up at Annesley I'm not sure. 70003 was allocated to March shed (31B) and 70025 to Aston (21D). If Doncaster Works still dealt with Brits at that time then it's possible that Darnall "borrowed" them.

There were six Class 5 4-6-0 locos recorded, allocated as follows:

73032 - Woodford Halse (2F)

73040 - Chester Midland (6A)

73069 - Leicester Central (15E)

73156 - Leicester Central (15E)

73158 - Cricklewood (14A)

73170 - Leeds Holbeck (55A).

73156 is preserved, currently at the Great Central Railway, Loughborough.

There was one Class 4 4-6-0, 75063, allocated to Nottingham (16A).

There were three Class 4 2-6-0 allocated as follows:

76042 & 76043 - Cricklewood (14A)

76044 - Woodford Halse (2F).

I copped 76043, at Annesley, on Saturday 15th August 1964. Interestingly that same day I saw 92220 "Evening Star" arrive at Annesley on a freight from the south. It returned south later on. I think that was the only day 92220 went to Annesley but I believe it made more than one return journey from Woodford to Annesley. I took a photo which can be seen via this link:

I have extracted the shed allocations from the online BRDatabase.

70048 "The Territorial Army 1908-1958" is recorded in the Annesley No.4 signal box train register on Saturday 18th August 1962. A photo of the engine that day at Annesley shed is on the Rail Photoprints web site railphotoprints.uk/p775480951/hc528c95f?fbclid=IwAR0Vr-GY...

70048 is shown near the bottom of page 27 down , leaving the shed at 8.4pm then going via 1 arrival to No. 3 box. The remarks show she was heading for W(adsley) Bridge. Looking at the Working Timetable for that period there was a train, 5E77, which started from Annesley with Wadsley Bridge as the destination. It left Annesley at 8.20pm, passing Killamarsh Junction at 9.6pm.

70048 returned to Annesley shed in the early hours of the following day, Sunday 19th August 1962 ( 3.8 am on page 28 up)

Out of interest 70048 also worked 5E77 on Thursday 16th August, returning to shed the following morning at 1.16am.
