This piece is called “Pendant with the Virgin and Child”. It was created with gilded copper and champleve enamel which is the reverse decorated in vernis burn. Overall the dimensions are 7 13/16 x 6 11/16 x 1 ¼ in. or 19.8 x 17 x 3.2 cm. It is a Mosan piece that was created during the 12th Century Romanesque period sometime between 1160-1170. According to the museum, the pendant was most likely made to serve as a reliquary to house a consecrated host. This would protect the host that wore it and showed that they were declared sacred. This piece belongs to the Cleveland Museum of Art and it is on display in section 106C Medieval Treasury. The crest line is a purchase from the J.H. Wade Fund and the accession number is 1926.428.
