Composite Lion and Bull-1969.122_web

This Composite Lion and Bull was created by using a cast and pouring bronze into it. This cast is 412 x 31316 x 51316in. (11.4 x 9.7 x 14.8 cm.) This work was created in Iran sometime during 1500-1000BC. According to the museum, this work was most likely meant to be used for worship. It has the head of a bull, which represents fertility, and the head of a lion, which represents strength. It is interesting to look at the mind of the holder. Perhaps, they would use this for hope and strength to become fertile, whether that be physically or even for crops. This work can be found in the Cleveland Museum of Art in section 102A Ancient Near East. It is from the John L. Severance Fund 1969.122. This piece is Public Domain. clevelandart.org/art/1969.122
