Anthropomorph was created during the bronze age in the First Millennium (c. 1500 - 1000 BC) in India. According to the CMA, this and many other sculptures like it were found in the plains of the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers in the north of India and are shrouded in mystery as they were created in the time between two key periods of time in the country’s history. This figure in particular is made of copper and its overall dimensions are 23.5 x 36.5 x 0.5 cm (9 1/4 x 14 3/8 x 3/16 in.). Though the function and meaning of this abstract sculpture are unknown due to any perishable items from the period being lost to time its somewhat simplistic symmetrical structure draws the viewer in to appreciate its aesthetic, nevertheless. This object can be viewed in section 242A Ancient India in The Cleveland Museum of Art and is part of the Norman O. Stone and Ella A. Stone Memorial Fund (2004.31).
