As tensions in the South East Asian theatre worsen, demonstrations from nationalist groups have been on the rise in desperate attempts to expel western influence. NATO backed rebel groups have rapidly grown in notoriety after recent attacks targeting critical EU infrastructure within the region, as well as ambushes against high ranking party leaders and diplomats.

On a diplomatic mission to further cement EU ties, the EU ambassador to Indonesia is publicly assassinated when his entourage is ambushed following a meeting with senior government officials at the Barrington hotel.
Due to previous reports of rebel activity in the area, Indonesian soldiers part of a QRF were on the scene seconds after the shooting began. Although admittedly their efforts to safely evacuate the diplomat were ultimately futile.
