Ascetic Holding a Skull - 1980.25_full

The 'Ascetic Holding a Skull' is a Gilt Bronze figure depicting a man with a large belly holding a small skull in

his left hand. The hair is the only part of this design which is not gold in color. This appears to be a trend among

artists of this region and time period. The figure was created during the Wei dynasty around 500 ACE in China. The

figure is described as being Mrgasirsa and has influence roots in Hindu culture.
