Volvo S90 and V90 also get Android-Powered Infotainment System
Volvo Cars announced that in the future they will offer Google's operating system Android Automotive in more models than the electric cars XC40 and C40, namely also in the S90 and V90, and - as we wrote yesterday - in the updated XC60.
About four years ago, Google announced that they were developing a variant of their Android operating system to be used in-car infotainment systems. In connection with this, information also emerged that Google and Volvo Cars have entered into a collaboration and that the future Volvo cars will be equipped with the next generation of Google-based infotainment systems. At the car show in Los Angeles in the autumn of 2017, Google and Volvo told more about what was on the way.
Today, the operating system, Android Automotive (not to be confused with Android Auto, which is a mobile app for mirroring mobile content on the car's screen), has been launched. First out with the system, however, was not a Volvo car but the electric car Polestar 2. It was in early 2019 that Polestar told about the choice of the operating system, just over a month before the car itself premiered.
Last year, the electric car Volvo XC40 Recharge appeared, also with Android Automotive, despite the fact that other XC40 model versions are equipped with Volvo's own and outgoing Sensus systems. As recently as last week, the electric car C40 Recharge was presented, a slightly slimmer variant of the XC40 Recharge and of course equipped with Google's operating system.
