"Ghost and Oil Lamp" is a hanging scroll that utilizes colored ink and gold on silk that stands at 187.3 x 65.4 cm in total. "Ghost and Oil Lamp" was made by artist Tani Bun'ichi in 1810 and according to the CMA, was created despite Tani Bun'ichi claiming to dislike depicting spirits as subject matter in their work. The painting displays a ghost with a smooth yet weathered face, large hair dark encircling their white face, a flowy nondescript gown as attire, and a wrinkled and thin arm extending outwards in front of the dark oil lamp. "Ghost and Oil Lamp" was a part of a collection at a Toyko temple arranged by Sanyutei Encho before being acquired and donated to the CMA by the Kevin Smith Collection in 1992 and is currently not on display.
