Coin-1999.227_web

"Coin" bears the resemblance of Havishaka, ruler of the Kushana region in modern day northwestern India. The coin is made of pure gold and on one side displays the likeness of ruler, Havishaka, and displays ancient deities on the other side of the coin. Unlike other works from the region, the inscriptions on "Coin" are written in Kharosthi and not Sanskrit. "Coin" can be estimated to be commissioned between 106-149 AD and was later given to the Cleveland Museum of art as an anonymous gift in 1999. "Coin" can be viewed on the Cleveland Museum of Art's website in addition to their ancient India exhibit (242A Ancient India).
