Mourner from the Tomb of Philip the Bold, Duke of Burgundy is a vizille alabaster statue part of a series created by Netherlandish artist, Claus de Werve. It was carved during the early 15th century in Dijon, Netherlands. The artist shows off his admirable mastery over drapery in this three-statue series, contrasting the sharp fabric corners with delicate and soft facial features. The statue has a height of 41.7 cm (16 7/16 in.) and a width of 16.6 cm (6 9/16 in). It can be viewed at the Cleveland Museum of Art in its 109 Gothic Painting and Sculpture exhibit. It was purchased from the J. H. Wade Fund and can be accessed with the number 1940.128. This image is in the public domain.
