Male figure is a 19.7 cm (7 ¾ in.) terracotta sculpture, possibly created somewhere between the 1300’s and the 1600’s. According to the museum, It was created for ritual purposes by the ancestors of the people of Inland Niger Delta in Mali, Western Sudan. This piece was donated to the Cleveland Museum of Art by the John L. Severance Fund and on view in the 108A Sub-Saharan Gallery; the accession number is 1985.199.
