Aphrodite - 1927.489_print
"Aphrodite," on view at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Gallery 102C, is a moderately sized, yet life-like terracotta sculpture of the Greek Goddess of Love dated to 400-200 BC. Clearly reminiscent of the iconic work "Aphrodite of Knidos" by Praxiteles, but on a smaller scale, according to the museum, the choice of terracotta (an inexpensive medium) indicates it may have been commissioned by a person of more modest means.
The overall dimensions of the sculpture are 43.5 cm (17 1/8 in.) tall.
The piece was gifted by the John Huntington Art and Polytechnic Trust 1927.489.
The image is in the Public Domain and can be seen on the museum's website.
