Shiva and Parvati - 1961.94_print

"Shiva and Parvati," on view at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Gallery 244, is a magnificent bronze sculpture from South India, Tamil Nadu, Chola Period. The sensual and athletic builds of both beings are covered by ornaments and garments that look as if they could move, yet they cling to the body. The figures have a natural poise, with serenely smiling faces leaving no mistake that these are in fact gods. The entire sculpture weighs 86.5 lbs. The sculpture was purchased from the John L. Severance Fund 1961.94. The image is in the Public Domain and can be seen on the museum's website.
