A floral fantasy of animals and birds (Waq-waq) is opaque water color and gold on paper, painted in the early 1600's in Mughal India. This piece comes from the merging of Ancient Persian and Quranic texts and depicts the mythical island of Waq-waq, which is inhabited by animal-plant hybrids. The piece has overall dimensions of 37.6 x 26.6 cm (14 13/16 x 10 1/2 in.). It is found in the Cleveland Museum of Art from the Leonard C. Hanna Jr. Fund, however, it is not on public display.
