Found in Pakistan's Gandhara region, the Winged Atlas was carved from grey schist in the 2nd-3rd century and originates from the Kushan period (1st century-320). Although nothing is written in the description for this piece, several connections can be still be drawn. The Kushan Empire was a syncretic empire that drew from both Hellenistic traditions and Indian traditions. The Atlas figure is adopted from Greek mythology and reimagined with wings. The overall dimensions of this piece are 18.2 cm (7 3/16 in.). This piece is in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art (Dudley P.
