Standing Amitabha-1988.34_web

Standing Amitabha is gilt bronze and is 25.4 cm with tangs 26cm. This piece is from 800s Korea during the Unified Silla Dynasty. It was purchased by the Cleveland Museum of Art with the Leonard C. Hanna Jr. fund.

The left hand is in the vitarka mudra position, symbolizing intellectual discussion. The right hand is in varada mudra position, which is symbolizing charity and giving. According to the museums website, this piece's artistic style bears resemblance to the Gupta period in India due to the soft modeling and naturalism.

This piece is on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art in section 236 Korea. This image is in the public domain.
