Tantric Female Enlightened Being (Vajrayogini) Holding a Skull Cup- 69c1b442-937b-2730-3679-1968cd407904

Tantric Female Enlightened Being (Vajrayogini) Holding a Skull Cup,was created in 18th century Central Tibet. She stands 26 x 18 1/4 x 9 in and is made of silver, gilt silver, and copper alloy. She was a gift of Marilynn B. Alsdorf to the Art Institute of Chicago. This female deity, titled as Vajrayogini, stands in an archer/ hunter stance while holding a skull cup. Skull cups symbolize a mind filled with the bliss of realizing the true nature of reality. Her right hand is extended in a giving gesture. Only one view of this sculpture is provided on the museums website, but looking at other tantric staffs, its possibly this enlightened being has one protruding from her back. This would represent her male counterpart as method and her as wisdom. This image is on display in the Arts of Asia, gallery 140, its reference number is 2014.1041
