“Crucified Christ” on view at the Cleveland Museum of Art, in Gallery 109, is a wood (walnut) sculpture of Jesus from Germany, Cologne 14 century (c. 1340-1350). According to the museum, the sculpture shows Christ moments after his death. His slim, tormented body stretched on the cross (cross not shown) depicting enormous suffering. His upper body naked showing his protruding rib cage. His lower body covered with a drape. The soft folds of the covering are in sharp contrast with his bony body. The dimensions of the sculpture are 41.6 x 36.9 cm (16 3/8 x 14 1/2 in. This remarkable piece is credited to the Andrew R. and Martha Holden Jennings Fund 1981.52.
