Chalice from the Beth Misona Treasure – 1950.378_web

“Chalice from the Beth Misona Treasure” on view at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Gallery 105, is a silver vessel dating to the Byzantine period, 6th-7th Century. According to the museum, this cup was used to hold Eucharistic wine during Mass. The cup has engraved images of Saint Peter, Saint Paul, Christ, and the Virgin Mary as well as the name of its donor. The dimensions of the artifact are 17 x 14.2 cm (6 11/16 x 5.9/16 in.). The vessel weight is 300.5 g (10.6 oz). The item was purchased from the J. H. Wade Fund 1950.378.
