Ceremonial Board (Malu) DT1290
The Ceremonial Board (Malu) was made by an unknown Sawos artist in Papua New Guinea in the 19th century. The board was made out of wood and measures 75” H by 24” W by 6 ½” D. It is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art at the met fifth avenue in gallery 354. Its credit line is The Micheal C. Rockefeller Memorial Collection, Gift of Nelson A. Rockefeller, 1969 and its accession number is 1978.412.713. I chose this piece of art because I think the central spiral looks like tendrils that are holding a gem. This image is in the public domain and its URL is www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/311159
