Headdress (chi wara) 1965.325_web
The Chi wara headdress was made by an unnamed African Bamana blacksmith in the early to mid 1900s in Mali. The Chi wara headdress is made of wood, cowrie shells, glass beads, aluminum, iron, upholstery studs, natural fibers, and is 17 ½ by 26 in. It is currently located at the Cleveland Museum of Art and is on display in 108A Sub Saharan. It was a gift from Mrs. Ralph M. Coe and the accession number is 1965.325. I really like this piece of art because of how modern it looks with the way its head and horns are carved. This image is in the public domain www.clevelandart.org/art/1965.325
