Vichy, a spa city in France

Back to France ! No sooner were we back from our three-week April 2024 trip through Castille and León that we embarked on another one, this time to the French province of Vendée, which is between Brittany to the north and the Bordeaux region to the south.

On our way there, and since we were not in a hurry, we stopped for one night in the spa city of Vichy, which is famous for its late 19th century and Year 1900 architecture, when the spa business really took off and Vichy was swamped with customers and a fair number of Royal Highnesses seeking to take in the good air and better their health.

Vichy is known to be a quiet, old and rich town. It is still mostly the case today, and city mansions such as this one, emulating the Parisian style of the Haussmann period of the years 1860–1900, exemplify the wealthy bourgeois chief characteristic of the town.
