Day of the Dead

As part of work experience, the art students designed their own masks and we were asked if we could do the eye makeup to match their designs which were professionally photographed. I chose this mask, because It reminded me of the Mexican celebration 'day of the dead'.

Process:

Once I was given my mask I started designing my eye look on some face charts and making mood boards for inspiration. Day of the dead is famous for its patterns and bright colours so I knew I wanted to create something bright on the eye with a unique shape.

Once I was given my model, I started by prepping the upper face, I applied foundation to the forehead, concealed and set the under eyes and primed the eyelids. I filled and shaped the eyebrows and started the eye look. On the right eye, I made a blocked shape using aqua coloured paint and winged this out with purple, I also added a purple dotted line above this shape. For the left eye, I added a pink shadow up to under the eyebrows and cut the crease, I defined this line by smoking a slight purple to the edge. I did the same technique to the under eye and used concealer to cut this line too. I finished the look with some mascara and setting spray and then styled the hair.

My client was originally wearing a bandana, so I removed this and added this white mesh and tied this up shaped like a bow, which I think adds to this look very nicely.
