Comma-shaped Jade

This piece is titled" Comma-shaped Jade" believed to have been made in the 400s AD in Korea during the Three Kingdoms period. It is made out of Jade stone and is quite small, according to the museum it is ; overall: 6.6 x 4.1 x 1.2 cm. Many pieces like this were found at burial cites of more affluent people. Their shape is thought to represent embryonic form and more particularly rebirth in the afterlife. This piece is on display at The Cleveland Museum of Art in the Korean Art Department in the Jewelry in Korean Arts Section. Gallery number 236. This piece was a gift to the museum of the John Huntington Art and Polytechnic Trust.
