"Benediction Cross"1952.458_web

“Benediction Cross’’ dates from the 1200s –1400s and belongs to the 13th-15th century, Byzantine period in Byzantium. The cross is made of black schist, gold, and silver and the type of work is Glyptic. It can be viewed at the Med- Byzantine collection, located at the Department of Medieval Art at the Cleveland Museum of Art in gallery 105 Byzantine. The dimension of the ‘’Benediction Cross’’ overall is 9x9cm (3 9/16x3 9/16 in.)

The “Benediction Cross’’ is a very magical and hypnotizing object. It is obvious that it shows the start of a new era of art, style, Politics, and Economy. This is a very beautiful and stunning designed object and I think whoever created it had a clear message and an idea in order to make more mysterious the unbreakable Christian faith. The cross shows that the god is clocked and imagined as a human and the people who had the power and considered themselves the messenger of God did that with the intention of giving themselves divinity and they were invincible. The Cross has the shape of a human body with open arms and open legs I say this because there is a similarity on purpose because when a person opens their arms and legs, the distance between the feet and arms is the same, just like in the cross. During my observation of the ‘’Benediction Cross’’ in the middle of it is a human portrait who is supposed to be a saint, in my opinion, shows clearly that these people were to be worshiped because they brought the word of god.
