This painting composed of gum tempera and gold is from Northern India and made in 1760 during the Mughal period. Its size is 20.5 x 24.7 cm (8 1/16 x 9 3/4 in.) and the gold used to depict the sparks from the sparkles bring a vibrant feel to a night background, emphasizing the setting of a festival. This paper painting is in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art (purchased from the Andrew R. and Martha Holden Jennings Fund 1971.82) and is not available for view.
