Native San Franciscan David describes himself as a "retired prostitute." He asked me for change and I told him about the $2 Portrait project and he agreed to pose.
"I've been under psychiatric care for 40 years," he told me, "ever since my father discovered me taking LSD. I was just having fun. That was back in the Haight-Ashbury days."
David says he was a prostitute virtually all of his adult life, but has now lost all his teeth and has retired. He also told me that he spent all his money over the years on other prostitutes.
"I just couldn't help myself," he said.
He asked if I wanted him to pose in other ways. "Do you want me to strip down?"
I politely declined.
