Harry
Harry held a cardboard sign on 3rd and Mission reading "United Negro Pizza Fund, all donations accepted/appreciated." I told him about the $2 Portrait project, and he was amenable to being photographed.
Harry told me he's originally from Baltimore, but came here some 30 years ago for "the weather and a woman." Unfortunately he says, the woman he came out west for developed a bad crack habit, and he says he "had to it break it off."
"You know, alcohol is one thing," he said, "but that crack..." and he shook his head. He also said that since he broke up with the woman he has quit drinking, and is determined to stay sober. He has some family scattered around Maryland, but he doesn't expect he'll see or hear from them any time soon.
