Silk lanterns at Hoi An night market. Lantern making in historic Hoi An has existed for over 400 years. Lanterns were originally introduced to the port by Chinese and Japanese merchants. There are still 32 lantern work shops making the silk lanterns with bamboo frames in the traditional way.
