On 29th of March, Turkey announced that, they would open the borders for refugees who would like to go to Europe. After this announcement, thousands of refugees surged towards the border with Greece and Bulgaria.

 

Some of the refugees went to the village of Doyuran Koy which is very close to the Greek border. They were not able cross but they did not give up. They camped around this area. I went to this village and witnessed the tough life that they were facing. It was very sad, there were lots of young children. I photographed one of them who was playing innocently in the dirt. There were also a lot of sick children. I photographed an older girl was carrying her sick sister. She did not know what to do, there were no doctors, hospital nor anyone who could help. They were all living in squalor and they were building basic shacks to keep them dry. Luckily, there were some charities who were distributing food and clothes. I saw young kids and old men eating the food with a great appetite. Everybody were focused on one thing "Crossing the border".
