Neben den berühmten Natursteinbögen ist auch eine der ikonischsten Formationen im Arches National Park beheimatet. Knapp 40 Meter hoch, scheint der Balanced Rock das Gesetz der Schwerkraft außer Kraft zu setzen. Des Rätsels Lösung ist jedoch relativ simpel. Denn tatsächlich handelt es sich bei dem vermeintlichen Balanceakt um ein Phänomen der Erosion, bei der der aus weicherem Material bestehende Sockel schneller verwittert als der darüberliegende Sandstein. Irgendwann wird der Felsen jedoch fallen, aber das wird noch ein paar hundert Jährchen dauern 😁
